Manifest Destiny is a belief that was common in the 19th century that stated that American settlers were entitled to and destined to expand across the entire continent. Manifest Destiny can be broken down in to 3 themes.
Special virtues of American people and their institutions:
The new settlers felt it necessary to inflict their opinions and views on anything and everyone in the new land.
America’s mission to rebuild the image of the west to the image of agricultural America:
The new settlers wanted to create lots of farms out of the western side of the continent.
An irresistible desire to accomplish this task:
They felt it was fulfilling their destiny.
